What a fabulous fantasy novel! It’s got grit, it’s got issues that are very relatable in the real world, it’s got the shock factor, it’s gripping, it’s full of suspense and the magical fantasy in it makes it pure escapism!
Storm, the central character, is a thirteen year old girl struggling with her identity. On her journey to discover who and what she is, she has to let go of the past, the resentment that lies there, and the fear that goes with it. She has to learn to accept things as they are, accept who she is. As this isn’t enough, there is more a sprinkling of grief for her to deal with. This book also challenges gender stereotypes with both main characters not following the ‘usual’ path for their gender in their fantasy, but traditional world.
